WELCOME TO THE SOLDSTER GOLD SELLER'S GUIDE

THIS GUIDE EXPLAINS HOW TO SELL YOUR GOLD TO US ...

AN OUNCE OF GOLD ISN'T ALWAYS AN OUNCE OF PURE GOLD...

The first thing you need tell us is the kind of gold you have. An ounce of gold is not automatically an ounce of PURE gold. An ounce of 10K gold is only 40% gold and 60% other metals!

DETERMINE THE TYPES OF GOLD YOU HAVE

If you are out flea marketing, or haunting yard sales looking for gold, you need a good magnifying glass. We recommend the Clip-n-Flip Magnifying Glasses, available online from Amazon.com for about $12.95.

Look inside the band of the ring to find its stamping. All gold jewelry is stamped to indicate its purity. You identify the type of gold you have by finding its purity stamping, a tiny series of numbers and letters that indicate the type of gold the item is. This is where you need your magnifying glass. Using your glass, look inside the ring or bracelet and find the stamping. BEWARE: AVOID ANY STAMPING LIKE GP (gold plate) or RG (rolled gold), or GF (gold filled) so 10K RG is very bad, as is 10K GF. 24K GP is VERY VERY BAD.

IF THE ITEM IS NOT STAMPED OR IS FILLED, ROLLED or PLATED --- WE DO NOT BUY IT!

ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND THE TYPES OF GOLD, YOU ARE READY:

step1 STEP ONE: SORT YOUR GOLD BY TYPE

We need to know the type of gold you have. The common gold types are:

scale
  • 10K - contains 41.7% pure gold. 10 grams of 10K has 4.17 grams of pure gold (remember, it takes 31 grams to get a troy ounce)
  • 12K - contains 50% pure gold.
  • 14K - contains 58.3% pure gold.
  • 16K - contains 66% pure gold.
  • 18K - contains 75% pure gold.
  • 22K - contains 91.66% pure gold.
  • 24K - Pure Gold
  • Dental Gold (gold teeth) - Usually 18 - 20K, we pay as though it is 18K because it varies so much.
  • Coins - Varies a lot! Inquire.

Separate your gold into groups of 10K, 12K, 14K, etc. Now you are ready to weigh each pile...

step2 STEP TWO: WEIGH YOUR GOLD

scale

Weighing your gold is simple. You need to tell us how many grams of each type of gold you have (how much 10K, how much 14K, etc). For this, you need a gram scale. We recommend the Fast Weigh M-500 Digital Pocket Scale, available online from Amazon.com for about $8. Here is a direct link to the Amazon order page: GO TO ORDER PAGE

The Fast Weigh M-500 is great because it measures .1 grams so you don't short yourself, and is simple to use. Just press the button and it defaults to grams mode. Lay your gold in the tray and it will show you how much your gold weighs. 31 grams equals one troy ounce of gold.

If you don't want to spend 8 bucks to find out how much your gold is worth, you might try your local pawn shop. They may weigh your gold for you, and if they give you the weight in pennyweights, that's OK. The main worry is whether or not they give you a true weight.

Once you know the different types of gold you have, and how many grams of each type, you are ready to go to our INSTANT OFFER page:
